And does it hurt that they are incredibly stylish?!

Random Acts of Lightness

Fireflies are brilliant! Those brilliant little butane butts!

However, there is a special species of Asian Firefly, discovered by John Bonner Buck and his lovely wife Elisabeth, that begins its nocturnal nadir with random flashes but progresses into an optical opus as a synchronicity emerges. Beautiful rhythmic order out of random sparkly chaos. Fireflies know how and why this happens

I wonder if humans ever will...

Thresholds

Have a Whirly Day!

It's called High-G Training. Jet pilots and Astronauts, among others, train in a small cockpit at the end of a large spinning centrifuge. Apparently, the breathing technique for the High G-Force Training is to forcefully say the word "hook". You take a big breath and say HOO- hold your breath for three seconds, contract every muscle in your body and finish with the K! and let the rest of the air out. And Repeat. Most lose consciousness around 12Gs. A 200 pound Man at this G Force weighs about 2500 pounds! Can you imagine having to be so conscious and in control of every muscle contraction and breath every minute of every day!?
THAT'S CRAZY TALK!

Oh the beauty of the human body and its efficient and effective systems!

Love,

J

-UPDATE:

Thanks to SuperForester Janet, who informed us that the top image is via Kevin Kelly's incredible blog.

From kk.org:

"These wooden bicycles are ridden in the Banaue region of the Philippines. During an annual festival celebrating the culture of the regional tribes, wooden bikes are raced by participants in native costume. Notice the cool foot-activated brakes. These photos are from the Flickr pool of Harry Palangchao."

Awesome! Cheers Janet.

Pumping An Iron.

Working out at the gym is great!

Wouldn't it be better though if the gym were outdoors, had an extremely low footprint and used all reused materials!!!!!!!!

Well, pump those eyes muscles onto this...

I say no more working "out" because with gyms like this, it's more like working "with"!
