Advertising on SuperForest?
Good Evening SuperForest,
Jackson here.
I've said previously that I'd prefer never to have advertising on this site, for a number of aesthetic, moral, annoyance-avoiding reasons.
That said, SF needs to start supporting itself.
We have a good site here. We do good work. If there was a way that we could continue to spread the word about sustainable achievements and inspiration, and not let SF get cluttered with banner ads and pop-ups, I would happily consider it.
What I want to know is: What do you think?
Is it that big a deal to have advertising on a site? And if you say yes, what/who do you think we should advertise? If no, why not?
Could we avoid advertising altogether and use a Radiohead-esque tip jar situation?
Let's figure this thing out.
Either comment in the comments section at the bottom, or send an email to superforestnyc(at)gmail(dot)com.
Love,
Jackson

Pizza Stats

This is what you get when you order a pizza at one of the twenty pizzerias that The Economist picked for their new advertisement campaign. It is, as a matter of fact, a genuine pizza. The only thing that got pimped for a bit is the box.
Economic magazine The Economist bought some space on pizza boxes (honestly, I didn't knew that was for sale) and they filled it with some ads like the one above. It shows a pie chart that contains data on where the US gets their mushrooms. For the people that are having a hard time reading the tiny text in the chart, 96.8% of the US mushrooms comes from Canada.
Besides this mushroom-chart they have got some others. For example about arable land by country. All the ads are pizza-related though. Quite an original way of advertising, and oh so clever. (If you think about it, it's also good for the environment because paper that would have been used otherwise to print the ad on is now replaced by a pizza box that would have been consumed anyway!)

SuperForest Redesigned!
Good Morning All!
You may have noticed that the layout of SF has changed recently.
This is actually for an interesting reason. Well, two interesting reasons:
The first is that visually it looks nicer to have more room for our posts to breathe, and the second is that the blogger template is set up so that you have lots of room on either side to sell advertising space.
Since we will NEVER have advertising on SF, that space has been recaptured for our sweet sweet content.
Fun, right? When I go to sites and blogs, there parts of the page I don't even bother looking at. The same goes for magazines and television.
We've gotten so good as a culture at tuning out the advertising, that traditional advertising is dying away. So, an interesting question is: "how then will goods and services be advertised?"
Like this, son!
Much love and hope you like the new look.
