The Beaverton Valley Times has an incredible story about William Yuan, the twelve year old boy who invented the 3-D solar cell. (I'd never heard of it either, that's because it didn't exist.)
William's technology is expected to make conventional solar tech 500 time more effective.
500 times more effective!
Says good Sir William:
“Current solar cells are flat and can only absorb visible light,” he said. “I came up with an innovative solar cell that absorbs both visible and UV light. My project focused on finding the optimum solar cell to further increase the light absorption and efficiency and design a nanotube for light-electricity conversion efficiency.”That's good news.
